Review by Christine Bergsma

Harness the Business Writing Process by Paul Lima is an excellent book for anyone looking to improve his or her writing skills within the business environment.

This is not a book on grammar, as stated within the book, but a book about how to write. It is amazing how simple the writing process becomes once you understand the basics: how to organize your thoughts and keep your editor separated from the creative flow.

The book is clear and concise and gives a broad range of business writing examples such as report writing, writing for the web, email writing, writing a negative message, and writing media releases and evaluations—all focused on the purpose and ideas that you are trying to convey.

The tone of the book is informal, yet academic. However, compared to other academic books on writing, this is a refreshing change as the book speaks to you as a writer. The table of contents makes it easy to find the subject you are looking for and is set out in a logical manner.

I discovered the book when taking an online course, The Business Approach to Writing, through the University of Toronto, with the author of the book (Paul Lima) as the instructor.

The cost of the book is reasonable and Harness the Business Writing Process is a convenient and effective way to improve any business writing.
