Importance of creating a business vision

December 6, 2012 – 7:50 am

Do you create an annual business vision?

As we move towards the end of the year, I find it’s a great time to reflect on the year that was and think about the upcoming year and what I want to do. I’ve found – and it could just be me – that if I don’t think about what I want to do, it’s difficult to make it happen. (Kind of like trying to shoot at a target without knowing what the target it, or where it is.)

Because I work at creating a business vision, I know I’m going to write two more books this year, as well as do several other of the freelance things I do — primarily corporate writing and business-writing training. Knowing what I want to do helps me allocate the time and effort required to make things happen. Without the vision, I’m not sure what I’d do – maybe be buffeted by the winds of the priorities of others. To me, that’s too much like work!

Anyone interested in my take on the importance of having a business vision, and how to create one, can read about it here.

Whether my take on it makes sense to you or not, I hope you can spend a little time thinking about what you want to do next year so you can spend more time on making it happen!
